The year was 1963, the TV set was black and white, Mom turned on her "story" entitled, As the World Turns. My little eyes took it all in, the hospital setting, the drama, the relationships, the hairstyles and I learned something very important.
Women love a story!
Why is that? Because we are relational creatures and we crave relationship with one another. We like to compare clothes, children, husbands and just about everything and yet our relational nature- our greatest asset is also our greatest downfall.
Have you noticed that even among Christian women, we are subject to the same relational pitfalls as our non Christian counterparts? We wonder when is God going to renew my mind, when is the fruit of the Spirit going to come as a natural flow, why do I allow my self to be in friendships that are all take and no give?
Hard questions, no easy answers but perhaps you need another godly women to come along side you and help you navigate the waters of relational patterns you long to break.
This morning I was parked in Philippians Chapter 3, where Paul talks about the former things that he was now counting as loss. I felt the Holy Spirit challenge me to answer the question of what things I once counted as gain that were falling off my persona the way very tender meat falls from a bone. This wan't a pulling or a struggle but a natural form of surrender to view these things as refuse compared to what lies ahead of me.
So what does this have to do with relationships, tricky friendships and tired patterns that I was holding onto for my self worth? The answer was EVERYTHING! God was supernaturally producing head to hear transformation with very little effort on my part. I look forward to His continued work, won't you join me in this journey with the Holy Spirit?
