Renovation of the Mind- Hard Work!

Writer: laurenblackburncoalaurenblackburncoa

I sold real estate for over a decade before I became a Coach. I had clients that were not afraid of hard work- when it comes to buying a fixer upper. I admire that since most young people are not interested in "sweat equity".

I think that's true in the spiritual realm as well, we don't want to do the hard work of:

Looking inward

Slowing down

Listening

Obeying

Sacrifice

Not fun to allow for renovation of the heart (Dallas Willard wrote a book by the same name) but hearing those words- that the heart, mind and soul can actually be renovated is a life giving hope!

Those of us who read the bible at least give lip service to the verse, "I will give you a new heart", "renew your mind" and that being "born from above" requires a new birth not placing bandages on the old sin sick human skin.

I have to admit that I am ready for Spring, looking at the decay on the earth, the old leaves left from last fall and the brown grass leave me panting for new life. I believe that our souls need to be that desparate to even consider renovation of such an intimate place. We have to be ready to let go of

Old attitudes that contaminate

Mean spirited comments behind the backs of those we claim to love

Selfish motives

Fear and blame

The gardener of our hearts stands ready willing and powerful to disrupt fallow ground- I'm ready to hand him the shovel!

Happy Spring !
