You can stuff it, act it out, deny and do a dozen dances around it but have you ever thought of it as a gift? Not only a gift but God's gift to you? Now wait, this goes against my theology or the concept of God as a Giver of good gifts. Your right, it does and He is, so what's the deal here, what have I missed?
If I were to go out to my garden and step on a sharp object and feel no pain, what would happen? My foot would probably become infected or diseased if it was left in there. But by God's great gift He has given me the indication of nerve endings in my foot so that I quickly detect that something is very wrong and I need to remove the offending thorn or nail or whatever I stepped on and so I do.
If only we used emotional pain in such an efficient way. What is my depression, trigger and uneasiness trying to tell me? What do I need to attend to or remove? Is this the way most people respond to pain? Most likely not, we react by feeding it, shopping it, acting out on it or just plain ignoring it. To our detriment we miss the opportunity to position ourselves out of our busyness and activity to actually sit at the feet of our Heavenly Father and receive the soul care and the Spirit of truth who speaks in all truth to our innermost being.
When was the last time you felt the care and advocacy of the Holy Spirit? Have you ever experienced Him as the Holy, Wonderful Counselor or is your Christian life second hand feeding from intellectual sources and dry wells of obligation and duty?
The invitation still stands, "Come to Me all of you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest...".
P. S. He also provides guides, helps and coaches on your journey and that's what this coaching ministry is all about.
