Who Gets A Voice?

Writer: laurenblackburncoalaurenblackburncoa

Who determines which person gets to have a voice? Why is it so important to be heard, to have our pain acknowledged? When is it not healthy and what are the warning signs of becoming a "professional victim"?

Feelings of powerlessness often lead to manipulation, drama episodes and victim thinking but in a world that values power, some anchorless souls will resort to these mechanisms to gain some sense of false power.

How often do we discount the words of Jesus in the Beatitudes? "Blessed (happy) are the meek...they shall inherit the earth..." instead we feel like we inherit the wind. Dignity comes from God not man, I tell myself this when injustices brushstroke my life portrait with doubt and excessive self examination. Why is one's persons pain worthy of an expression while many suffer in silence and is that fame the antidote for the pain or is the validation enough?

It is easy to forget that God Himself became a voluntary victim of injustices, abuse and mockery. In light of this truth how does He want me to handle people who mistreat me, hurl insults and false accusations and deny rightful positions earned? When do we keep our mouths shut for false peace, a tiny compensation and when do we take a stand, legally, morally, ethically for these earthly arrows?

Live close to the flame and we will know, the burning warmth of His presence will provide needed fuel for either battle or patient perseverance.

Time is our greatest friend in this discernment, and haste is our foe. Every human being deserves a voice- some in the public forum, others in the prayer closet. Vindication belongs to God in this life or the next.
